to Head & Neck Pain
Headache pain in the occipital region and axial neck pain are common and, in many cases, debilitating conditions. Conventional treatment options often lack efficacy and are potentially neurodestructive. Sixty-day percutaneous peripheral nerve stimulation with the SPRINT® PNS System provides a minimally-invasive, non-destructive treatment option for headache and axial neck pain.
PNS of the Occipital Nerves
82%
of patients were responders with an average of 60% pain relief among responders following a 60-day stimulation of the occipital nerves (n=44).*
PNS of the Cervical Medial Branch Nerves
83%
of patients were responders with an average of 53% pain relief among responders following a 60-day stimulation of the cervical medial branch nerves (n=30).*
SPRINT PNS is the only implantable PNS device that enables on-label stimulation of the occipital nerve
* Responders defined as patients who had ≥50% pain relief and/or clinically significant improvement in quality of life. Anonymized records were reviewed from a realworld database of patients who previously underwent commercial implantation of SPRINT, had baseline and end of treatment outcomes available, and opted in to provide data. While safety was not directly analyzed in this review, commercial safety data have indicated that most medical events are non-serious in nature and the most common events are skin irritation, pain or uncomfortable stimulation, or pain at the lead exit site.
Head and neck pain can be debilitating… Obtaining sustained pain relief with a non-destructive device like SPRINT PNS provides clinicians with a new powerful option for our patients.

SPRINT PNS in Practice
Identifying potential patients for occipital and cervical medial branch nerve stimulation
OCCIPITAL NERVES
Example patient profiles:
Occipital neuralgia, migraine/headache, upper axial neck pain with referred pain into head (cervicogenic headache)
Nerve target:
Greater and/or third occipital
CERVICAL MEDIAL BRANCH NERVES
Example patient profiles:
Axial neck pain, sometimes with referred pain into the shoulder
Nerve target:
Cervical medial branches
